The EU is capping cash at €10,000 from July 2027.
What the rule does
- No business in the EU can accept or make a cash payment above €10,000
- From €3,000, certain sellers have to identify and verify you before the sale
- Linked payments get added together, so splitting doesn't work
Why this matters
- It's a regulation, not a directive, so it applies directly in all 27 countries with no national version to argue with
- Each country used to set its own limits and watch its own banks. From 2028, AMLA in Frankfurt does it for all 27
- The digital euro starts its pilot the same year
